Samuel Basi brings over 15 years of deep expertise in commodities trading and risk management, combining front-office trading acumen with rigorous middle- and back-office execution. With a background spanning physical and derivative markets, he has built and led trading desks, managed books, and developed a unique perspective on the operational and commercial challenges faced by commodity firms.
He is the author of ‘Perfectly Hedged: A Practical Guide to Base Metals’ - widely considered the industry’s authoritative literature on metals risk management. Samuel is also a frequent guest lecturer at global academic institutions and is regarded as a trusted source of knowledge for navigating commodity risk. In recognition of his expertise, the London Metal Exchange has partnered with Samuel to deliver tailored educational training to their global client base.
Educated at Loughborough University in the UK, he went on to gain 11 years of experience at Trafigura and 4 years at Greenwich Metals. Samuel then founded Perfectly Hedged LLC - an education and consultancy firm whose clients span the full commodity supply chain, including producers, consumers, financiers, brokers, and traders. Through Perfectly Hedged, he helps companies around the world strengthen their understanding of hedging and risk management.
